Project Description

Nestled on the Central Coast of California, Morro Bay is the “gateway to the north coast,” being a prime hub City at the crossroads of Highway 1 (home of the original road trip!) and Highway 41.

Just 12 miles north of San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay has a uniquely wild setting and sits along a natural estuary, making it an amazing spot for animal aficionados from bird watchers to sea mammal lovers. Surfers find wonderful waves along Morro Rock, an extinct volcano jutting 500 feet into the sky, and paddleboarders appreciate the calm, glassy waters of the bay protected by a natural sand spit.

The area has many opportunities for both road bikers and mountain bikers, being near Montana de Oro State Park, and the community is a perfect temperate-climate home base for travelers who want to stay in an affordable location along the Pacific Ocean but also want to see amazing sights throughout San Luis Obispo County, whether it be the San Luis Obispo Children’s museum or wineries north in Paso Robles.

Community members enjoy many wonderful parks and a uniquely Morro Bay downtown atmosphere full of small shops that include everything from used books stores to arts and crafts to coffee shops, restaurants and more!
